Naked Remedy – Naked Remedy EP

nakedremedy-nakedremedySelf-released, 2010

Taking their cues from 70s rock – Zeppelin, The Who, etc. – as well as a more modern garagey feel – White Stripes, Queens of the Stoneage – the freshly-formed Midlanders’ debut has plenty of groove-heavy bluesy guitars and raspy histrionic vocals. The latter can be a little grating, and the record doesn’t hit as hard as it should, but it’s not a bad start.

The Demon Beat – Shit, We’re 23

thedemonbeat-shitwere23Big Bullet, 2009

This is rock n’ roll with all the required ingredients: dirty southern-tinged riffs, liquor-soaked bluesy vocals, Hendrix-idolising solos, stoner-influenced grooves, and, yes, a shitload of swagger. More genre-homage than genre-reinvention, but it does all that it sets out to do.
